UMnumzana Mduduzi Dube ongu-Agronomist kunkampani ye- AgriSeeds usekhuthaze abalimi ukuthi belime i-garlic ngoba ilenzuzo emangalisayo. Uthe i-garlic kayihluphi ukulima njalo ilinywa umnyaka wonke.

“Sikhuthaza abalimi ukuthi belime i-garlic ngoba kayihluphi ukulima njalo yenza kuhle ngesikhathi sokutshisa. Abalimi sibaxwayisa ukuthi balime i-garlic emhlabathini ongena lula amanzi phansi futhi ofakwe umquba.

“Okunye sikhuthaza abalimi ukuthi beqale belungise ingadi zabo ukuze kube lombheda omuhle ozenza ukuthi i-garlic ikhule kuhle,” kutsho UMnu Dube.

Uqhubekele esithi i-garlic iyimihlobo emibili egoqela i-soft-neck le-hard-neck.

“I-soft-neck ibalama jodo (bulbs) amakhulu njalo ngumhlobo we-garlic ojayelekileyo, i-hard-neck ngumhlobo okhula ubelamahlamvu abalesiqu phezulu alombala oyi-purple njalo umhlobo lo kawugcinwa isikhathi eside njenge soft-neck,” kutsho uMnu Dube. Uthe inhlanyelo ye-garlic ngama cloves.

“I-garlic ihlanyelwa kusetshenziswa ingxenye yama- garlic cloves njalo inhlanyelo yakhona akumelanga ihlanyelwe endaweni olomumo womkhathi owedlula i-30 degrees.

“Abalimi kumele bevule izikhala eziyi 5 kusiya ku-8cm phakathi kwezilimo le 30 kusiya ku-40cm phakathi kwemizila. Okunye njalo umlimi kumele ebone ukuthi impande zama-cloves uzikhangelisa phansi nxa ehlanyela,” kutsho uMnu Dube.

Uthe i-garlic ilemikhuhlane lezibungu ezinengi njalo ukhuthaza abalimi ukuthi bayifafaze.

“I-garlic ilezibungu ezigoqela i-cutworm, thripsle leafminer lemikhuhlane egoqela i-white root kanye le-down mildew njalo sikhuthaza abalimi ukuthi beyifafaze besebenzisa i-Dithane M45 kanye le-copper oxhycloride le Makozeb,” kuphetha uMnu Dube.
